When the natural lens of the eye gets cloudy, it is called a cataract.  With a cataract, things become hazy, blurry or less colorful; objects look as if they appear through a foggy or dusty windshield.  When it becomes difficult to complete your regular activities of daily living, cataract surgery is recommended.

Cataract surgery removes the cloudy lens from one’s eye and replaces it with a clear artificial lens, know as an intraocular lens (IOL).  A standard IOL provides excellent vision correction, but will not provide correction for astigmatism.  Cataract surgeries have a 98% success rate and patients are often able to return to normal routines with 24 hours.

Vision Correcting Lenses and Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) Lenses

Premium lenses, which provide an alternative to a standard IOL, are offered for an additional fee. These lenses provide patients with different options for vision correction. For example, a toric lens corrects astigmatism. Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) lenses allow for distance, intermediate and near vision ability. These are lifestyle lenses designed to allow spectacle independence for a majority, if not all, of your activities.
